Part time lover and a full time friend

I was at the gym on Friday and had just come out of my step class when I heard a band playing over the loud-speakers that I would never have expected to hear at Gold's Gym. The Moldy Peaches.

Any of you who are already familiar with this band know just how awesome they are. Those of you who haven't had the privilege to become acquainted with their music might have heard their stuff in the movie, Juno. Theirs is the closing scene's guitar duet.

Apparently the director of Juno asked star Ellen Page what she thought her character would listen to. She mentioned The Moldy Peaches, so Reitman got in touch with Kimya Dawson and Adam Green and asked them if he could use their song "Anyone Else but You."

Later, after Dawson thought the movie was wrapped, Reitman asked if he could hear some of her more recent work. She obliged him with some songs she'd been writing for her toddler, and those songs also ended up in the film.

Dawson said she was happy to see the movie's characters singing "Anyone Else but You." "Those kids are so cool and weird and sweet," she says. "They're nice little freaks. I felt like they were not too far from the kids we were when we wrote that song." At the time, Green was 18 and Dawson was 27.

Anywayz, you can and SHOULD check their stuff out here. Or check out their pretty crazy website here.

I've been listening to them since like middle school or high school thanks to my ever-so-hip and trendy older sister Katy who always seems to know who's about to hit it big. She's also the one who introduced me to Radiohead, Feist, and Ani DiFranco before they become the hit sensations they are now. Thanks, Kate.

But the Moldy Peaches song, Anyone Else But You is a lovely little ballad that I hope I am cool enough to call "Our Song" for Steve and me. Haha!

You're a part time lover and a full time friend
The monkey on you're back is the latest trend
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of a train
I kiss you all starry eyed, my body's swinging from side to side
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Here is the church and here is the steeple
We sure are cute for two ugly people
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me
So why can't, you forgive me?
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

I will find my nitch in your car
With my mp3 DVD rumple-packed guitar
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu du

Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

You are always trying to keep it real
I'm in love with how you feel
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

We both have shiny happy fits of rage
You want more fans, I want more stage
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Don Quixote was a steel driving man
My name is Adam I'm your biggest fan
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Squinched up your face and did a dance
You shook a little turd out of the bottom of your pants
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu du
But you

I like one of their other songs even better, Nothing Came Out.

Just because, I don's say anything,
Doesn't mean..
I don't like you.
I opened my mouth, and i tried, and i tried,
But no words came out.
Without 40 Ounces of social skills,
I'm just an ass,
In the crack,
of humanity...
I'm just a huge manatee...
A huge manatee.

And besides you're probably holding hands
With some skinny, pretty, girl that likes to
Talk about bands, and,
All i wanna do is ride bikes with you,
and stay up late,
And watch cartoo--oons.

...Duc tails, shirt tails, tail spin, sailor moon... (keeps going)

I just wanna watch cartoons with you.
Josie and the Pussy Cats and Scooby Doo,
I want you to watch cartoons with me:
He-man, Voltron and Hong Kong Fooey

I tried to ask,
you to your face
but no words came out.
Put on my hood,
and walked away,
that dosnt mean I don't like you

And besides you're probably holding hands
with some skinny, pretty girl that likes to
talk about bands, and
all I wanna do is ride bikes with you.
and stay up late and maybe spoo--oon.

Just becase I don't say anything
doesnt mean I don't like you.
..no..
I opened my mouth and I tried and I tried.

And besides, you're probably holding hands
with some skinny, pretty girl that likes to
talk about bands, and
all I wanna do is ride bikes with you.
and stay up late and watch cartoons.

I'm just your average undercats host.

I LOVE the Moldy Peaches/Kimya Dawson! And Juno reminded me just how very much I love them, so I've been listening to them lots lately. Such good stuff. And you guys' song even has Don Quixote in it. Perfect.

Wow, I never realized how right Nothing Came Out is for you and Steve. Nicely done.

I finally had the chance to watch Juno last night, and besides all the other really cool stuff, I realised that I'd had a Moldy Peaches-shaped hole in my life for a long time... I really forgot how good a lot of their songs were, which has now been remedied :)
